Your job duties & responsibilities
At Taber, we have an HR Department of 1, so I am responsible for everything from recruiting, hiring, on-boarding to terminations, and everything in between! As a part of the leadership team, I am challenged to encourage reduced turnover, employee engagement, and culture of continuous learning and development.
How long have you been at Taber?
I started at Taber on 6/23/2015 as the Accounting Specialist, then in January of 2016 I became the HR Manager; so going on 4 years now.
Where did you work prior to Taber; was it in the same industry or something totally different?
This is my first time to work in the manufacturing industry; my past experience has been at Financial Institutions and Government, such as State and Borough, which is definitely entirely different!
When you’re not at work, what would we find you doing?
When not working, and if I’m not with my family, you would find me either shopping or traveling – those are my 2 favorite things, and when I can combine the 2 – even better!
Hometown?
I was born in Ft. Smith, AR, but left there with my family when I was just 5 to move to British Columbia. We returned to Arkansas when I was 14. Throughout most of my married life, I have lived in Alaska
Family, children?
I’ve been married to my husband for 31 years, we have three children, each married and between them I am “Noni” 8 grandchildren all under the age of 5! My family is my life! I love being with them. It is especially high energy when we are all together, which happens nearly every Sunday.
What would “your perfect day” consist of?
A perfect day for me really varies, but it should always include sunshine and either a beach or swimming pool!
What’s your favorite part about working for Taber so far?
At Taber, I am surrounded by team full of smart, innovative people who challenge me to learn more and continually improve. This is a fascinating world with new challenges and victories every day. I am never bored at Taber!
What sets Taber apart from other companies that deliver the exact same things?
As I mentioned earlier, this is my first time in this industry, so I am not too familiar with other companies that produce the exact same thing, but I do know that there are few that have as broad of capabilities that we do here at Taber. I believe that what sets us apart is our family-like culture, we all care for and support each other as family.
What do you hope to bring to Taber in terms of leadership and company culture?
Everyday I strive to bring a positive attitude, a smile, and an uplifting conversation regardless of what is going on. I always hope that whether someone is having a rough day at work, or maybe they are having to deal with issues at home, or even if everything is all good when they encounter me, it is a bright spot in their day. I strive to set the tone for a positive culture, free of drama and hope that the example I set inspires growth.
If you weren’t working for Taber, what job would you probably have?
I can’t think of another place I’d rather be right now, but I must say that before I came to Taber, I never thought I would work in any manufacturing-type industry. I have enjoyed my growth throughout my journey from one position to the next, and I have found that here at Taber each day greets me with new challenge!
Taber is growing rapidly. Any advice for those looking to join the Taber team?
Taber is growing rapidly, and my advice for anyone looking to join our team is you should come on with an open mind to change, a willingness and a commitment to be a part of a solution and improvement, take pride in your work, it’s a very important piece of the big picture.
What do you think the future holds for Taber?
As it is stated – the sky is the limit! Our leadership is constantly looking for ways to grow and expand, so who knows exactly what is on our horizon! But, you can be sure that whatever it is will be forward moving, ever evolving and growing with plenty of opportunity for the right talent!
